Ever wondered if you are making your cocktails right? Or if your favourite cocktail could be improved? Well here at SXHIRE we'd like to share with you a bit of science behind your cockail making. 

In case you weren't aware, gone are the days when a bartender simply splashed Coke into a tumbler of rum and called it a drink. Today, booze is all about the science. And it turns out that one of the biggest players in that science is ice.

Jennifer Colliau, beverage director at San Francisco's The Interval at The Long Now, shows us how using ice to control a drink's temperature can make the difference between a good and perfect cocktail. Mostly, this is due to dilution. When you stir or shake a drink with ice, the dilution from that ice is what brings out the flavor. But not all cocktails are diluted equally. Different cocktails require different degrees of dilution, and it's the temperature of the drink that is used to gauge that dilution. Colliau actually stirs her cocktails with a thermometer in order to achieve the perfect temperature, a.k.a., the perfect amount of dilution. It's all very scientific.
